The island of Timor has a turbulent history as a trading port: Chinese. Javanese and Islamic trader frequently the island for many centuries seeking the fragrant Sandalwood so treasured throughout the world. The Portuguese and Dutch compete the trade, eventually dividing the island into two : Dutch West Timor and Portuguese East Timor.

About Nembrala Surfing - Rote, West Timor

Nembrala Surf Camp receives consistent swell from April through to October as the trade winds are blowing offshore. The swell here is impeccable and has been referred to as a Bali 30 years past. Rote Island is located 500 km's north of the Northern Territory Australia and is 100km long by 20 km wide and is populated by around 100,000 friendly, mellow locals. Rote is surrounded by pristine white sandy beaches and bays shaded by lontar coconut trees, the trees also serve the locals for building materials, food and income. Rote is the most souther part of Indonesia.

The camp is located right on Nembrala Beach where you can see T-land breaking behind the coconut trees. There are 9 bungalows that all face south which allows all the bungalows to catch the breeze keeping your room cool throughout the day and night.

DAY 01 : BALI - KUPANG
We will pick you up at the hotel in Bali, transfer to the airport fly for Kupang. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel in Kupang for overnight stay. "all surf board may causing extra cost upon check in, please provide some Indonesian Rupiah for this charge".

DAY 02 : KUPANG - ROTI ISLAND (NEMBRALA)
You are picked up at the hotel at about 0730am and transfer to Super Fast Boat from Tenau harbor. Your surf board may have some extra charge. All our passengers will receive their VIP class ticket in two hours boating from Kupang. You will receive a snack and water on the trip. Please note luggage is stored in front of the cabin. It is an idea to collect your bags just before arriving in Baa to make your departure quicker. Our representative will load the guest’s luggage and then take you to Nembrala which is an hour drive through lush and primitive village. You will arrive at Nembrala surf camp just in time for lunch.

DAY 03 : ROTI ISLAND (NEMBRALA) - SURFING ACTIVITIES
All your day will see you relax, surfing to your heats content, exploring the island and meeting the friendly locals.

DAY 04 : ROTI - KUPANG - DENPASAR (BALI)
After breakfast at your surf camp or lodge, transfer to Baa harbor where you aboard the ferry back to Kupang. In the afternoon we arrive in Kupang direct transfer to the airport for your flight back to Bali.

THE ACCOMMODATION : Your accommodation in Nembrala Beach of Roti island consisting of simple yet comfortable huts with traditional style of buildings and roofs. All rooms are separate building ensuring privacy and are fan cooled with mosquito nets. The beds are comfortable enough, especially after your hard day's of surfing. Each room has a large veranda with seats to relax and watch the ocean whilst catching the off shore breeze ensuring you don't have heat.

MEALS : There are 3 (three) meals everyday from your arrival, there is a set menu which will be given to you on arrival. The kitchen staff at the camp understand the needs of surfers and all meals are surfers portions, plenty of rice, fish, chicken and if you are game they make a sensational chili paste.

DRINKS : one large bottle of drinking water and one large bottle of Bintang Beer are provided to each guest everyday. If guests would like more they can purchase soft drinks, water, juices, milkshakes, etc at the restaurant at a reasonable price.

SURF TRANSFERS : We provide boat transfer access to T-Land surf point twice a day just let our local surf guide know and they will be happy to escort you.

WHAT TO BRING : DVD (movies) to watch in the camp as there is currently a limited amount to choose from, FIRST AID KIT, Fishing Gear (If you would like to go fishing), Snorkeling equipment, there are a number of accessible reef areas that are great to explore just a short walk from the camp. Surf Equipment; wax, spare leg rope and fins, during the months of July, August and September World Surfaris suggests you pack a spring suit or 1mm titanium rash guard as the trade winds can make things a bit chilly. Books or an IPOD, Adapter plugs, as all plugs are Indonesian 2 prong.

EXTRA INFORMATION : The Camp grounds include; an outdoor shower, 1 outdoor bar and restaurant, an indoor restaurant. There is a DVD player, television and stereo to watch in the restaurant after a full day of surfing. 

MEDICAL : There is a Doctor on call in the Nembrala village.

COMMUNICATION : The local Indonesia SIMPATI SIM card is the best bet. There is a strong signal 24hours a day. Guests can purchase a SIM card in Bali or at Rote.  Or guests can use the mobile phone at the camp for a small charge.

MALARIA : Bring some Mosquito repellent, as most of the islands in Indonesia there is Malaria, although there is hardly any mosquitoes in the dry season in Rote, it’s a good idea to take some precautions at night, we provide mosquito nets. Preventive pills are recommended and we advise you consult your doctor before leaving home.

ELECTRICITY : Currently electricity is on from 6pm until 6am and full day on Sundays.
